Technological water intake protection
The design and construction of surface water intakes, whether it is a water intake pumping station or a hydroelectric power plant, requires taking into account the protection of ichthyethiofauna.
Surface water intake may cause a loss in populations of existing or migratory fish near the intake. The investor or user is more and more often required to use dense grilles on the intake inlets, which protect the fish from entering these intakes. This results in faster build-up of contaminants, which significantly reduces the amount of water entering the intake and requires more frequent cleaning of the grilles. This results in reduced intake efficiency and increased operating costs.
